We also recommend that you keep your receipt or order number, which can be found on your order confirmation or on the delivery packaging, as you might need it as proof of purchase in the event of any after-sales queries.
If I change my mind...
Most of our products are covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee*, and we'll either exchange them or offer a full refund. Phone us on 0845 077 8888 within 30 days to arrange a FREE collection. Products must be unused in their original packaging, and accompanied by your proof of purchase**. This does not affect your statutory rights."
They state "most of our products" I would seriously complain and demand to be shown where they state that paint is not covered.
Maybe you had a colour specially mixed for you?

Both of my local trade suppliers accept returned material at no charge. I bought a ton bag of decorative pebbles last month for a job, used what was needed and they picked up what was left and charged for what was used. even rolls of DPC are regularly returned half used. These are indie suppliers not the likes of Travis Perkins etc.

No the paint was straight off the shelf and was unopened if I had it mixed to my spec I would understand this but for changing it for another can the same price off the same shelf I really cant see the issue
You're a victim of 'Policy' over humanity, one size fits all, designed for the lowest common denominator, an edict from Head Office and obeyed by employees with no power to do otherwise on pain of sacking.Try getting a mattress problem fixed by Sleepmasters; you're just beginning

Yes Very true I really just wanted to warn other people so the same thing wont get repeated on any other innocent victims, after all were only humans and everyone makes mistakes.

There's your problem. Right there.Homebase are a useless pack of idle
s. I wouldn't give them the steam off my piss.I complained to them about understaffing (or more accurately the failure of their staff to man tills when queues are up to eight deep). Told them I'd walked out a number of times leaving several hundred pounds worth of goods behind. Received a phone call then a gift card for £10 (which I'd said not to bother with). One day, thinking I'd give them a last chance, I tried to spend the £10 plus some cash on sacks of compost..........
Two storey shop, gardening section upstairs. 'The Upper Level Of The Car Park Is Closed'. No worries, they have a lift and travelator, I can trolley the stuff down. Select a trolley, head inside. 'Lift Out Of Order'. Take the trolley up the travelator, load up with compost.........'This Travelator Is Out Of Order'. "No problem" I thought "It's downhill". Right? Well, not when the trolley wheels lock on an incline leaving the travelator blocked by a trolley laden with a small garden's worth of compost.
I gave the card to someone queueing (eight deep) at the checkout on my way out.
They couldn't organise a f
k in a brothel.For Google:

So your trying to tell us you bought a tin of paint didn't open it took it back to swap for exactly the same make of paint, same price just a different colour and they tried to charge you £6 extra? and you paid it?
Theres one born every minute
I might go buy a tin of paint at the weekend and return it and get my money back just for the fun of the argument.

Please note that no retailer is obliged to accept any returns at all for items that are unwanted or no longer needed, the exception being where items have been bought on a website where there is a 7 day right to change your mind enshrined in law.
Many companies have a returns policy in place as a gesture of good will (and probably to keep the peace) but they certainly don't have to. If Homebase have decided to implement a handling charge that's up to them, they could have told the OP no altogether.

This is PH. How dare you expect people to pay attention to what's already been written before piling in
Yes I'd like to second that, I always pile in first before reading anything, people who don't are the type of wuss that reads instruction manuals before doing stuff.
