Re wet it, let it soak a bit, get a wide bladed scraper and scrape.

Can do, but you still need to use something to scrape it all off with.Using the above method you'll get nice smooth walls ready for a tickle with some sandpaper when dry.
If using sugar soap just be careful with the stength of the mix and cover up any varnished or bare wood in the vicinity.
