Get a toylander instead

£904 plus I have to supply the body wood, screw, paint & Battery and I have to build the bloody thing myself?!
Maybe if I was rich and retired then just maybe. However I'm a long way off either of those

They are fine for a 2yo and will probably last as long as he/she needs before growing out of it. the price is reasonable as well so if they get bored of it it's no great loss. The wheels are hard plastic so fairly noisy. Betteries are rechargable but I'm not sure if you have to remove them to recharge.Has anyone had any experience of buying these? are they any good?

The real-life toys are good but probably better for an older child or to grow into later in life.

you can get old wheelchair motors from ebay for £45 a pair
wood is cheap
battery from scrappys £15
wheels from box trolly's say £15 each
That lot is not too bad - say a total of 150 but you still 904 to buy the thing so takes you over 1k.wood is cheap

They are great and if I had the money then maybe but it is still 10x cheap Chinese versions, so still expensive even it lasts 2-3 generations.
We got a Chinese made one as a gift and I thought they are naff but the kids love them. The remote control is handy too.
I would prefer a proper one like the Toylander though...
OP: That one looks quite good for the price and at least resembles a real car - a real hummer is just as cartoonish!

if you buy EVERYTHING from the toylander site instead of shopping about then yes it will cost you over £1k
but if you shop around you could have one built for under £200

He quickly worked out that hurtling backwards, then jamming it into "forward", would make it wheelie. Hours of endless fun.
I'm sure the motor will be knackered very soon.
I built a Real Life Toys (as they were back then) Jeep in 1992 for my son. I bought just the plans and scrounged together all the rest of the materials, topping it off with a motor from an electric bicycle.
We still own the Jeep although it's currently lent out to family with the correct sized children as my son is 22 and 6'1". In the meantime I've seen countless friends and relatives end up with broken plastic toys whilst ours has driven across flowerbeds, into a 5 foot deep ditch, flat out (6mph) into a slide in the park, all without lasting damage.
I'd ALWAYS recommend decent motorised toys.

I could more or less repeat the last post, except that I was a year or two ahead of you. I've 3 sons and the jeep had a real hammering. The thing had the strength and durability of a Chieftan tank and even survived being rolled and pulling me about in the trailer. Over the years we went through a replacement HD battery, a motor and a complete set of tyres (worn down to the canvas), not that there was anything wrong with it but it just got used, used and used. The local tyre centre were great when the tyres needed doing, they treated it and the boys just the same as a real car. If your kids have 1/2 as much fun as mine it'll be worth every penny.
