Hi, I’m in the process of dividing my shared yard and building a bit of a garage/car port on my side.

I’m trying to do this as cheap as possible and therefore need some advice.
First off, flooring, what’s the best here? Levelling compound then paint seems the cheapest but any other alternatives would be good to hear.

Main one, the roof.

What I have done is replaced the wall with a double door and as I don’t have a drive I’m keen to keen to allow the build to let some natural light in.
The area is about 3.5x5m and I need something to cover it.
My options as far as I can see are;

1 - the clear plastic corrugated stuff, looks a bit cheap and I’ve been told it doesn’t last. But, it’s cheap enough to replace. Not planning on living here much longer really.

2 – the expensive poly card stuff, expensive (80 quid a sheet, I’d probs need 6) and possibly a bit over kill.

Any other thoughts?

Standard floor levelling compound is not a wearing or loadbearing surface, it purely levels. If you want it to be a wearing surface (even the paint won't stop it breaking up), add SBR to the mix.

The corrugated PVC comes in three thicknesses, 0.7mm, 1.1mm and 1.3mm. The sheds (B&Q, Wickes etc) supply the 0.7mm and it's crap. You want to be using either the 1.1mm or 1.3mm, but for your job I'd have thought the 1.1mm would be good enough.

The Polycarb sheets are better but unless you are staying put it's an extravagance as it's a LOT more money than the corrugated stuff.
