I've started making a half-arsed attempt at planning a new layout for my kitchen, currently trying to decide where to stick the cooker and am vaguely aware that there are certain places you should not or must not place a gas hob. However, the building regs aren't the most easily accessed or digested document in the world, so I'm looking to the collective expertise of Pistonheads for the simple version smile

Sooo... I think there has to be 600mm between hob and a sink, does that include the drainer part of the sink or just the bowl and taps?

Any restrictions on proximity to an openable window (seems likely due to chance of flame being blown out by wind)?

I think there has to be 300mm either side between hob and nearest upright object e.g. a wall or the side of a kitchen unit, is that right?

Also there's a minimum height to a cooker hood, can't remember the figure, something like 900mm?

Anything else to be wary of, I know I'll need a CORGI bloke to connect the thing up (and re-route gas pipe if necessary), but other than that and plastering I'll be doing all the work on the kitchen myself 'cos I'm tight wink

The instructions for my Siemens hood say min 550mm for electric and min 650mm for gas. However whether that's in line with ISO1234yadyada or simply the result of Herr Siemens' private experiments I don't know. But I doubt that Siemens would be recommending anything illegal.

all manufactorers quote different, the 1 I've installed this week states, 200 mm either side, 750mm from top of pan supports to underside of extractor fan and 500mm to underside of adjacent wall units
