I'm looking for a new washing machine as the one the previous owners of my house left is as old as the hills (Still has a hot water feed!) As I'm very limited on space I thought about buying a washer dryer, but I always remember them being pretty useless as a dryer. Is it worth looking at one and if so does anyone have any recommendations, or should I just get a good washer and a clothes horse?!

We got a Hotpoint WML560P. Comet have them on sale. Highly recommended:

1600rpm spin, 6kg load, Triple A rating.

In our last house we didn't really have much of a garden to hang washing out, so we bought one of these:

They work really well, just remember to crack a window when you turn it on.

Most washing machines seem to be rubbish of late unless you spend a fortune on a Miele or Siemens. We were sick of the average Indesit or Hotpoint lasting less than two years so were about to fork out £700 for a Miele when a friend told us about LG direct drive machines.

We've had it for four years now and it's never missed a beat, very smooth on spin and LG are so confident they give a 10 year guarantee on the full drive mech.

No belts or pulley's as the motor is in the centre of the drum so much less to go wrong. I think they start at less than £300 now.

I wouldn't bother with a washer/dryer as they don't dry very well. We've got a Bosch washing machine and apart from needing a new set of brushes for a tenner (easy to fit yourself) it has been fine for the last seven years.
