After last months house price index showing a drop, this week I have had several emails from agents with price drops, of 10-15% in asking prices from just a few months ago. Admittedly they are towards the upper end of our local market but I wonder how long before those kind of falls filter down to my end of the market? They have tried to hide the drops by saying it is 'new' when in fact they seem to have simply taken it off the market for a few weeks and then put it back on at the lower price.

Worth hanging on to see if the market softens further?

Its happening.
There are no mortgage valuations taking place at the moment.
The only people buying are investors, the wealthy, and older people who are trading down or moving sideways for personal/family reasons.

We're in the process of trying to buy, only because we sold a few months ago to an investment buyer whos hanging on to us for a while so we have a good chain free buyer. For us though theres a massive shortage of 4 bed detached properties in our area in our price range. As such when they do come on they're massively overpriced and the vendors will not budge (ie/ priced more than they were 3-4 years ago before the crash).
None of them will entertain any sensible offers nor reduce their price - stupid when so many just sit there unsold.

I certainly wish that the media would stop banging on about cuts and job losses etc. We only started to recover from the last "dip" when they got distracted by Russel Brand/Jonathan Ross and then the MP's expenses fiasco and forgot to foretell global financial meltdown for a couple of weeks.

Whatever has to happen, will happen, and the people concerned will deal with it as best they can. The media don't have to scare everyone shirtless in anticipation.

It's not difficult to tell that you work in "Financial Services" with such a statement as that, Zippee. In other words, you can't afford what's on offer. That's OK. There's no shame in it. Just say, "I can't afford it."

I'd like a Lamborghini Miura, but there's a massive worldwide shortage of them in my price range. Erm, none to be exact. In other words, I can't afford one. Maybe I'll settle for a Fiat Coupe instead, because they're both Italian and look similar in very poor light if you squint a lot.

Maybe you should settle for a semi-detached house.

Why don't you go fk yourself you dopey little prick!!!!!! Having lived where I do for the past 10 years I know what prices have been historically, main reason theres a shortage is owners just aren't putting them on the market in the size we are after. I also know that mortgage companies are rejecting a lot of the overvalued stock when doing their own surveys.

You want to get personal you then come and see me in person!!! You fking self righteous little tt!

i had a conversation with my mum the other day. she owns a few properties in the potteries and the prices have gone up recently. i know they are starting from a lower base but at least they are going up. there is also a shortage of properties avalable to rent.

When it comes down to it, whilst people continue to spawn, the demand will outweigh the supply barring a few minor hiccups.

We could reverse the trend by turning England into one giant housing estate, mind.

Or stop all benefits so the poor breeders naturally die out.

woah- feel like i've got spittle drippping down my face now.

it would have been better if you'd used the CAPS lock, but really that's just a stylistic commecnt, the content remains impressively angry.

No need - I've said my bit. I made a perfectly innocent statement only to have a personal attack from Joett on what I said. You can put your popcorn away though as this'll be my last post on this thread.

I think that means I can't afford it, and its just so bloody unfair. Even with my impressive negotiating skills.
