Electric Underfloor Heating

Currently re-fitting the kitchen and thoughts have turned to heating. Given the limited wall space I'm only able to have a small radiator, so thought about backing this up with electric underfloor heating.

Floor area to be heated is about 6 sq. m., concrete floor on which I will lay appropriate insulation. Would consider ditching the radiator and using only the underfloor for heating if this is considerd the best option.

Question is, what to look out for/avoid in buying the heating system? Electrics wise would they need a separate supply or is it just a case of plugging in?

Electric ufh is pants.

If you have an existing radiator, Polypipe do a 5m2 pack for just such an installation, comes complete with a control valve, plumb it into the existing pipework.

I fitted UFH in the kitchen before I tiled. I used the Devimat system, hooked up to a thermostat/timer.

We have supplemental heating in the form of a plinth heater for when it gets really cold and as we have dogs and are lazy we leave the door open all day.

It isn't suitable for all heating, if you have a cold kitchen and spend quite a bit of time there it will need supplementing. I also can't give you costings on electric ity as my mother got a 5Kw kiln around the same time!

Also, consider the plinth heaters as an altenative. Bit cheaper and can use more flooring types.

I have some Myson wet plinth fans and they work really well.

Underfloor is nice on the tootsies though! !
