The cold water storage tank valve had started sticking and sometimes we'd get the overflow spouting away. New seal inserted and while it was better didn't totally cure it as the operation was a bit sticky.

So installed one of these

The other intention was to get a silent fill.

So far so good, shuts off cleany, fills silently, except when you turn a hot tap on, when the level has fallen a bit and the valve opens you get a brief squeaky intermittent groan through the pipes.

During the day thsi isn't so bad, mildly irritating, but in the middle of the night if somebody gets up and washed their hands and you're still fast asleep the groan frightens the you know what out of you.

Any pointer from PH plumbers on how to cure?

Did the valve come with any flow restrictors to fit in the tail of the valve? These are sometimes critical. Also, is all the pipework adequately clipped?

Aye, could be pressure related. Could look into fitting a PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve) on your main, also make sure the mains pipe feeding the ball valve is well secured.

It has a pressure reducer already installed according the fitting instructions, which say if the flow is not adequate then remove the restrictor.

Pipework appears to be clipped OK but will check right through again.

With the old ball valve we got the odd noise but only on the one occasion I'd had the rising main off and had only cracked the stopcock open, opening it fully cured that, so I guess it might be something to do with pressure.

Will play a bit more, will see what happens when opening a hot tap along with a cold, thus feed pressure dropped a bit, as wondering why it was silent this morning.

Now gone silent, so maybe it was just settling in, or perhaps it looked in the toolbox and saw that big hammer called Bubba.
