Fridge Freezer in a conservatory?

Chaps and chapettes,

We have a lovely conservatory and we want to move our fridge freezer in there.

At the moment the conservatory is sans blinds (we will be getting those soon), but does anyone know of any potential problems we may have if we do move white goods in there?

Just to note, in the summer it gets pretty hot (obviously!), but we expect it to be cooler this summer when we have blinds installed!

My parents have had a chest freezer in the conservatory for about 10 years....But it's not south facing and is pretty shaded.

Your handbook should give the range of temperatures within which it will operate correctly.

My folks had one in conservatory, it was only 2 years old and it failed.
There really is nowhere else to put it so there is a fan beside the new one now,it sits beside it to try and cool it down a bit during the hot days.
Although we're in scotland so they are few and far between!

IME, they are more of a problem in cold places such as garages in the winter (as they never get wamt enough to turn the compressor on). As someone else pointed out, operating temp range is in the handbook (and usually ignored) or from the manufacurer if buying new. Some have condenser fans which will cope better than the type with the condenser on the back.

Our fridge freezer is in the south facing conservatory, been going 3 years now, on hot days it really suffers and the freezer is only at -10
Only other place we have for it is in the cold garage, it was getting a bit mouldy up there and it's at the bottom of the garden so it was rarely loved

I have one in a north facing conservatory and do not have any problems.

The higher the room temperature the harder the fridge/freezer has to work - and the more power it will use.

You could easily use a couple of extra kW hrs each day - say 25p - and possibly the fridge itself will have a shorter life.

biggest problem is if the conservatory is cold at night - sufficiently cold for the fridge not to want to run and the freeze to start defrosting

Mrs. Majordad has hers in the conservatory for the past year . No probs yet. The conservatory does get very hot but we leave the doors between it and the living room open to cool things down. Important not to forget this, and we empty and defrost it when we go on hols, just in case.

We used to have a freezer in the boiler room; no problems that I recall.

We had our old fridge freezer in the garage and it used to suffer over the winter. The fridge worked find but the freezer was often not very cold. It was OK and we learned to keep meat near the bottom of it which seemed to stay colder but it definitely didn't like the cold!
