Temp controlled boiler ?

As we moved into new house which use Potterton Suprima boiler which I think it is crap.
What we would like is leave the thermosetting controller to be set at 20 degree and boiler only come on when the temp dropped below 20 degree. It work well with combi from our previous house and was wondering if modern non-combi condensing boiler do the same job without having timed contolled heating ?
I was thinking of not upgrading combi system as it will be lots cheaper if stick to similar system but without timed heating system and on thermosetting temp controlled.
If there is such thing, which one is the best ?
