Can you assist me with a bit of market research please?

What hourly rate would you/do you pay for the domestic help i.e. gardening, grass cutting (if different to gardening), cleaning, handy man type work? It would be helpful if you could give an idea of where in the country you are (or a pikey/posh differentiator!)

....and no, not that sort of domestic services!

Cheers

Cleaning in London is somewhere between £6 and £12 an hour. If it wasn't for the influx of all the Eastern Europeans in the last 10 years who are willing to work hard it would probably be twice that...it's been that rate for twenty years...what inflation ? In fact it's probably the only thing I spend money on that hasn't at least doubled in that time!

Our current cleaner is 10quid an hour and she is pretty average.

We got a quote a couple of days ago for a replacement cleaner and they (yep 2 of them at any one time) wanted 16quid an hour......for cleaning....each....!

Our gardener now charges 10quid an hour and is excellent value. (Eastern European)

We are based in a big city in N Yorkshire.

Cleaner £9 ph - private arrangement, she's useless

Cleaner through cleaning company, £12 ph, equally useless.

So now the place just gets dusty and if it annoys us we open another bottle of wine - it's cheaper, more enjoyable and equally effective.

I started a similar thread some time ago but just for a cleaner. The general advice was £7-£10 an hour is about right, I'm in Sussex.

In Northants, and paying a cleaner £8.50 an hour for a weekly clean, plus the same rate for ironing that she takes away.
That said, she is fairly useless though...
