Hi All,

Looking into fitting double glazing, and have had quotes from three companies: Zenith, Safestyle & Thames windows, and Safestyle come out the cheapest. I was wondering if anyone had any problems with them? They sound legit, big company, 10 year warranty on everything, but have found no customer feedback on them.

Cheers.

If you google their name and add the word complaints, you will get a good few results.

They've been around a while, not used them for product but did business with them around 2004-2006 and were very straightforward to deal with from that side - no idea on customer service though...

There aren't many window companies you won't find a load of complaints about - the industry has a bad rep for a reason!!

We've used them before,& they where fine.Haggle hard with the sales man,& they'll do a good price.

The windows, are decent enough,& the fitters did a good job.We had one problem, where as.One of the catches stuck closed.

But it was sorted out straight away,it just needed adjusting a bit.

I'd recommend them no problem.yes

Yeah I've already had them round for quotes with the 'going back to speak to my manager to get you a better deal' rubbish.. I know I've got their bottom price off them now, but just want to check before I sign anything..

ad them round to measure up on the basis that there was not a chance in hell i was ordering on the night. took 3hrs to get rid of the salesman who was 25% over the lowest quote. told them this, a 'phonecall' to boss, soon undercut it. They then harass you for months in my experience.

I used a well thought of local company when I had my windows replaced.

Maybe not the cheapest, but they had a good reputation to keep up.

No problems with the windows, and after sales service would have been a simple matter of walking down the local pub and speaking to the bloke.

We had them and Everest round. As said above I could have thrown the salesman out of the window. What a tcensoredt.

There windows looked rubbish in compared to Everest, they used gavanised steel for the frames, Everest used stainless steel, they had a 10 year warranty, Everest had lifetime.

The worst thing of all was we wanted the safety locks on them to prevent the windows from opening too far, so the kids couldn't climb out. The Safestyle bloke said, 'Oh no we don't do those, one more thing to worng.' I said, so why do you call yourself 'Safestyle then?' Didn't have an answer to that. Told him to Foxtrot Oscar after that.

They a really bad for the hard sell, phoning the manager, saying you only get this price if you buy this very instant. All the usual salesman chuff. The guy from Everest just said heres the quote, with the discount, phone me if you want it, and left.

They were half the price of Everest though.

Annoyed me. The guy from Zenith was worse - was round for 4 hours before his bottom end price ended up being 4x that of Safestyle..

I have since received dozens of calls from both companies; Zenith's 'head office' even had the cheek to start slagging off Safestyle and say 'nah they're st, you're better off going down Wickes and doing them yourself' when I told them I was going with a different company.... slightly off topic I know

Had Safestyle in for a quote, it was supposed to be buy the downstairs get the upstairs free, he included all the windows at first and started with a price of £10k, then took the price of the upstairs windows off, then the one time only deals, then managers specials etc and got it down afte 4 hours to £3500.

We told him we would think about it, and that we had other companies coming to give us a quote.

Then started 3 days of 5 calls a day from them, trying to get the price down even further.

Sales guy came from the little local company, told him I wanted no special deals, no bogofs, just give me a price for the windows, with no gimmicks or anything his price was £3550. Needless to say, he got the work.

Safestyle, still not giving up finally decided they could go down as far as £3k, but by then I was just so sick of them and told them in no uncertain terms where to get off.

Still have them knocking on my door when they are canvassing the area, told them many times to go away, that I wouldn't deal with them if they were last company on earth etc etc, to which one actually told me that they are not Safestyle anymore, they had been taken over by Everest! (Both SS and Everest were rather surprised when I informed them both of that)

My advice.... don't touch them, please, for the sake of your sanity, forget they exist!

I had a local plastics company come and quote, I too told them I didn't want to haggle, that I had various quotes and wanted their best price.

They got the job thumbup

Thanks to a PHer who gave me an idea of what I 'should' be paying, they were spot on that.

I almost physically threw out their salesman

They did the hard sell routine, our normal price is £x but as a special for you we will do it for £x-3K
I said I wanted to think about it, so salesman gets on the phone to his manager
Price comes down by another £2k
I still wanted to think about it so salesman puts me on phone to manager who reduces price by another £1k if I buy tonight
I said No, I am not buying today I made that clear when I book the visit
Manager says "You are stupid if you don't buy tonight"
I say "not as stupid as you are, if you think thats the way t get a sale" then hang up
I ask salesman to leave, he refuses saying he will call manager again about the price
I insists he leaves now
he says "I can't, my colleagiue has dropped me off and wont be back for an hour
I say "wait outside then"
he says "its raining"
I say "shame, I am withdrawing my permission for you to be on my prperty, you are now trespassing, leave" (too much lawyer stuff done by me in the past)
he doesn't move, so i pick up his demo stuff walk to front door and chuck it out, he calls me a "fking wker" steps out onto the drive and I lock the door.

Would I use safestyle...I think not!

Local firm was £3k chepar than their best quote. They started at £18k and came down to £7k

I had telesales calls (over a three month period) from them and when they eventually got through and they told me about their amazing deals I just said no thanks (as I was doing it myself plus I'm leaving most of the original sash windows be) she said "You're just biting your nose off to spite yer face mate. Idiot" and hung up. confused

Needless to say I would never recommend them or use them. Ever.

having worked in the window selling trade(very very very briefly) all i will say about safestyle is this.

Be very carefull that they will give you what you want at the price you want, and you can have it done when you want, as once you have signed that contract you have 7 days to cancel it, and this wont surprise a lot of people, they wont answer the phone for 8 days, by which time you cant get out of it. bear this in mind and you should be okay, havent heard any bad reports about their product of fitting teams.

Oh and as for everest windows, they are more or less the same thing, just a fking sight dearer than safestyle

Its 14 days "cooling off period"

OP, get quotes from smaller independant companys, far better service and cheaper.

The trade don't seem to know the rules, and Safestyle are specialists at ignoring them

I have first hand experience of deaing with the business for a number of years. A lot of their fitters and sales people are self employed contractors, and there is very little in the way of any background checks done on them.

I'd be VERY wary about letting any of them in my house unattended. PM me for more information - probably not best to regale some of the stories in public...
