Anyone know about flies? We have one room in our house, which is south facing, which at this time of year always has loads of flies in it. I can't see where they get in, and nor are there any bodies under the floorboards to attract them either. A good spraying gets rid of them, but that's not really the point. Where do they come in and why do they always come back to that one room?

Sounds like cluster flies. South-facing will probably be the warmest room too.

Your profile says you live in Peru?
I think my Peruvian fly-based knowledge is lacking, so for that reason I'm oot.
Say 'hi' to Paddington's great aunt btw.

Vile, revolting creatures. We've been plagued with them for years, nasty little fkers.

Unfortunately, once you have them, they're almost impossible to get rid of. They're essentially trying to overwinter somewhere warm in your house, usually the loft, and they leave this lovely UV trail outside your windows so they know where to come back to next year. A nice hard frost early in the autumn usually does for them, we're hoping our infestation was hit hard last week. A pest controller will treat the window frames etc, but we've found a really good application of Raid or similar does the job just as well - get in all the corners really well, especially if like us your windows hardly fit the frames.

The damned harlequin ladybirds are also moving in and nesting in the corners of the windows - I just suck 'em all up with the vacuum cleaner and be done with it.

I dread the sight of the south-facing, whitewashed side of my house covered in the little black bds, means they're already in the loft and battle must commence.

Exactly the same here! Plagued by both.

Don't mind the ladybirds so much as they dont tend to buzz around the lights and windows like the flies.

However I went postal on the Ladybirds after waking up to feel one crawling up my leg at night! smash

I made the fatal mistake of fitting downlighters in the ceiling too before I found out about the flies - which made a bee line for them from inside the loft. However a few big buckets with small vent holes in placed over the top of them cured that problem.

Likewise, though there have been much less this year than last - probably thanks to clearing out all the old 50's glass fibre insulation and then hoovering the loft!

Ladybuggers are everywhere though, I currently have four of those Raid Flower stickers on our bedroom windows and they're all coated.
