I want to install a room thermostat to my better control the temperature of my house and I fancy something fairly high tech with a touch screen and if possible display the outside temp/humidity from an external sensor. I currently don't have a thermostat at all and the CH is just on a timer.

The Honeywell Prestige looks quite good, but I haven't been able to find anyone selling it in the UK.

Does anyone know of anywhere selling it, or of anything similar or even better? Would a thermostat of this sort be best fitted by an electrician or plumber?

No room stat? Have your rads got TRV's fitted?

A plumber who knows his stuff & is qualified to do the install will be fine. Similarly, a sparks will need to understand central heating controls.

I'd try a plumber in the first instance.

A decent Heating Engineer would be your best bet.

Thanks for the replies so far, I'd be quite happy using a plumber I know, but I'd like to at least research the kit for myself. Any comments on the Honeywell thermostat?

That wasn't meant to cause offence. I consider myself a Plumber and Heating Engineer, just suggesting that a Heating Engineer would be more clued up about heating controls than a Plumber.

At the moment it's just a combi boiler ( Potterton Puma 100e - will need upgrading in the next few years) with a British Gas timer. I can program what time the CH comes on and off in the morning and on and off in the evening, but that's it. Radiators are a mixed bag of old and very old. Each rad has a 'twisty' valve. Sorry I can't be more specific!

If it's a Combination Boiler it'll have a link inside across a couple of 230V terminals. Switch that with the output from any control and job done. Ambient temperature sensors will wire to whatever control you buy, if applicable.

Very few plumbers I know can't wire heating. Many sparks I know can't....

And, yeah, you ain't a plumber unless you can burn lead...or more importantly, dress it.

I know 1 or 2 that can't, but they're not much good at anything else either.

Back on topic. Why do you want a Honeywell prestige? It seems to be setup to control heating and cooling through A.C or heat pumps with temperature compensation thrown in,it would appears to be a bit over the top for switching on a scabby combi boilersmile

If you are thinking about replacing the boiler and want a "Cool" room-stat look at the Remeha Avanta with "isense"

Thanks, I'll check out the iSense, but I don't want to have to change the boiler just yet if I can get away with it. I'm not after the Honeywell Prestige specifically, but it's kind of the thing I'm after (excluding the AC controls etc).
