Heating Timer & Thermostat recommendations

Hi,

we are looking to update the heating timer & thermostat arrangement in our 'new' house.

At the moment it's fitted with an age old Honeywell ST699 2 channel unit and a thermostat (located in the hallway). Both are 12 years old and located right where we don't want in the kitchen (we are re-fitting this) and hall.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a newer 7 day timer & thermostat arrangement.

We had a Honeywell CMT927 wireless stat put in when the cylinder was changed. Works well, easy to setup and being wireless can be moved around the house to suit or fixed if required. Not as attractive as some other offerings but very user friendly. Also used Heatmiser in the past which were easy to use once set up.

The thermostat is in the hall because it's the best place for it. You need it in the space with most air-changes and with the front door there chances are that's correct. Be aware that you shouldn't have it in a room with a thermostatic radiator valve OR a secondary heat source. This would include a good south facing room, incidentally, as even in Winter the sun can warm a room up enough to turn the thermostat and boiler off.

The plan is not to move it from the hall, but to re-position as it's right in the way with all the changes that we have planned. So thought it best to put a nice new one up at the same time

If you are happy with the location, the hardwired Honeywell CM907 is probably your best bet, very easy to use programmable thermostat with plenty of handy features.

Don't have a central thermostat in my house, I think they are a pain in the neck! The bigger the house the more impractical they are.

Much more important to have TRVs on every radiator (barring a towel rail or two).

For time clocks I like the ones that have an "extra hour" button on them. If you want some extra hot water or just to warm the place up in the middle of the day you can just push the +1 hour button & you don't have to remember to turn the thing off - the system will run for an hour & then turn itself off again.
