Chaffoteaux Boiler problem.
Discussion
I know it's a pile of French crap but I have owned Citroens and one Renault.
Been leaking from the valve thingy that switches the flame on when it's asked for hot water so needs looking at but today I left the house for half an hour and came back to a furnace.
Thermostat was off yet it was flaming away merrily and the rads were red hot. Had to turn it off completely. Turned it back on after 10 mins and the same problem so out of desperation I called British Gas and signed up then and there to one of their service packages in order to get an engineer around tomorrow as I am at work for the next few days.
The wife would have left the damn thing on for hot water and god knows what our gas bill would have been.
Anyway, typically, I have just turned it on again after about a couple of hours and the problem seems to have gone away. Still leaking though.
Anyone have any idea what the problem would be and should I cancel the agreement as it's gonna cost me £363 (£99 call out and £22/month) over the next 12 months but I do get a service and anytime emergency call out.
The other one off options were £89 if fixed in half hour, £229 within 2 hours and £399 if over 2 hours and that is per single fault.
Eye watering eh! but the last time I called out the cheaper guys that fitted said boiler it was over £300 to replace and fit some circuit board. They were the guys who fitted the boiler for £1500 as opposed to British Gas who wanted £3500
Cheers

So I have had an engineer out twice in my first fortnight of the HomeCare agreement and the boiler is sorted.
A new motorized valve, a new pressure release valve, new pressure outlet pipe, a service and a clean plus a check of the rads.
But a letter from British Gas arrived yesterday saying that they can no longer cover my boiler due to "access" problems and have downgraded my agreement to a total cost of £189.
Not sure what the access stuff is about as the boiler is in the open and both engineers fixed the 2 problems so it seems like they got cold feet, saw 2 call outs on a 7 year old boiler that happens to be French and decided that it would be cheaper for them to charge me a pittance for the work done so far.
As long as the boiler gets through another year, I feel that I have actually got a bargain. Fingers crossed.
