I got my flat rented out. The tenants are Jewish. I agreed to provide them with a washing maching and fridge freezer. They said they can only take delivery after 5pm this weekday and this Sunday.

I have tried to arrange for this but it worked out the delivery of the washing machine will be on Saturday.

What is the deal with the Jewish faith and not doing work on Saturday? Cant they take delivery then?

Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath - ie the equivalent of a Christian Sunday.

Religious folks of various persuasions do and don't do certain things on the Sabbath.

Doesn't make a whole heap of sense to me but each to their own, etc

Does opening the door to see if its nice Rabbi Goldstein count as working? If not, tell the driver to bung the things in the hall, and sodoffski. Job jobbed. They can lug them round the place on Sunday morning.

Seriously, apologise for the inconvenience, but the alternative dates were weeks away, and if they want the gear, get the door opened for the delivery chap.

Tell them God will decide if they need a washing machine and fridge freezer or not. Saturday delivery is a test of their faith. wink

Indeed; they are such a pain. Really moany... They have given me such a headache over small things. They only get it when i put things into monetary terms. No joke.

Okay, I suppose I will try that approach. The other thing I was thinking is saying there was a mix up on dates. The door will ring and if they open it they will have a washing maching! lol. I will plead innocent.

I am trying not to insult them; i know if someone did something against my faith I would not like it. I am a bit lost. If they were more flexible it would be so much more easier!

So do all the doctors just chill out on Saturdays then? If you get stabbed Saturday evening then it's God's way of deciding if he wants you to live by seeing if you make it to Sunday to be patched up?? WTF?

I suppose in Israel nothing happens on Saturday.

Might have to tell the Arab countries to take over on a Saturday!

Is the problem definitely to do with the prohibition of work on the sabbath?

Might they not just be out of the house that day? smile

Why not offer to see the delivery in and fitted on Saturday for them? You have your own keys. Arrange a time and be there. Yes a ball ache, but job done properly and sorted.

As for leaving them in the hallway. I wouldn't be happy if a lessee sarted using communal areas to store bulky goods.

I wouldn't trust a tenant to close a door, let alone fit white goods.
