Hi all,

Quick question.

I need to change the hinges on some of our windows. I have sourced the hinges, that is no problem (£10 a pair, window fitter wanted 70 quid per window to do it!). They are all side hung windows.

My question is what is the easiest way to do it? I cannot get to 3 of the windows with a ladder so I thought I could do it by the following method (all done from inside the house:

1, I loosen the screws on the existing hinges (the srews that go into the frame).
2, I then take the weight of the window while the OH removes the screws completely.
3, I then twist the window and bring it inside.
4, Change the hinges on the window.
5, Re-fit by doing the above in reverse order.

The windows are probably about 100cm x 50cm. How feasible is the above??

Either that or someone takes the weight of the window and you swap one hinge at at time, leaving the window in place. (this depends on whether the screws are in the same place!) smile

I did think of that but getting to the screws on the actual window will be a pain bearing in mind both of us will be inside the house!

Sounds good to me! Remember to slacken the bottom hinge first and, reverse when reinstating.
