I know nothing about these products but the stain on my mushroom coloured carpet from a red wine is bugging me so want a cleaner to buy instead of rent and wondered which is the best and if it will remove it.
I have used the hand held stain remover but that didnt do much and now rather recarpet that section of my flat to wood I would rater get it back to clean carpet.

I also can't see that a cleaner is going to remove it if stain remover isn't so if you're sole aim is this stain I think you'll be disappointed.
Personally we use 1001 carpet cleaner for spot stains and have removed red wine on light carpets with no problem (it's worth ensuring that you blot up as much as possible with kitchen roll before adding any product or you just spread it).
We did get stuck with an ink spot on a light carpet in a rental house and had resigned ourselves to paying for the carpet, we then tried the steam cleaner on it and it shifted it immediately, so that might be worth a try?
We have a cheap Bissel carpet cleaner which was only around £40. It does the job perfectly well.

We have a Vax as suggested above, cost around £100. With a dog and a cat and a fairly pale plain carpet it gets used about once a month and takes it back to more than acceptable. The carpet would be horrible without it. Don't know how it would cope with trying to resurect an old filthy carpet though.

£20 a day around £8 for the shampoo and around £6 for stain remover, good machine just had one for 3 days and done the whole house.
