Best I can get is 43.75 ppl + vat (Notts)

Boiler Juice now quoting 46.7.

I notice from the graph on their website the price since August it has risen quite considerably.

I'd like to think I can hold for a few weeks, but the Watchman's blinking like mad! (I'll do a proper dip stick check tomorrow, though)

That, and the promised inclement weather ahead..

One thing you could try to get a better price is see if any of your neighbours need any as well.

In our village everyone is either on oil or solid fuel heating and we have an "oil group". You ring one guy saying how much you want, how long you can wait and if there are any days when you can't take delivery. He bulks up with other village orders and then rings around the local suppliers for the best quote. They ring you, tell you the delivery date & take payment. The guy takes no charge, he just gets his oil cheaper the same as everyone else - ideal job if you're retired !

Doesn't the VAT rate change over 2300 litres, or is everyone still charged at the 5% rate, its just a group order thing?

39+vodka and tonic a month or so back. From a casual glance at the prices, as soon as the media started talking about hard winter, they began to creep up. If you need some, I suggest you get it now as it won't be getting any cheaper this side of spring.

Also worth negotiating on volume - we have a local group buy as well, but they have yet to beat prices we have got direct from suppliers anyway. Being able to order 2500l in one hit helps.

I managed to move to a house with mains gas before it was time for the heating to go on, so don't need to go through this palaver every year woohoo

Just thought I'd share that hehe

True but as mentioned above supplies >2300ltrs are billed +17.5% VAT
whereas <2300ltrs just 5% VAT.

Any order less than 1000ltrs is likely to attract a premium from the company selling it too as it is amazing how little margin is made on fuel. Company I used to work for averaged around £0.015/l gross margin on kerosene (Small Domestics were pushed up to around £0.025-£0.030/ltr).

Every year? It's every 4 months for us, about 1000L a time and I am a tight bstard who wants to see icicles hanging from the noses of my children before the heating goes on.

Is that a new thing? Our last bill was at 5%?

Google said:
For Kerosene, home heating oil, the domestic VAT rate (for home users) is 5% and the commercial VAT rate (for businesses) is 17.5%. If you order over 2300 litres, the oil companies are obliged to charge you the commercial VAT rate unless you sign a declaration stating you are a domestic user.

Nope been on the go for years, I used to think the rule was pretty clear cut but a quick check on HMRC's website does seem to state anyone below 2300ltrs assumed to be domestic, but that >2300 can still be domestic & therfore a qualifying use & you're supposed to tell your fuel supplier what you intend using it for these days.
