What masonry drills do you recommend?

What with Chrimbo around the corner, iv'e decided to have a good old tool clear out and hint for new ones. I've hinted on dormer for HSS, but not sure about masonry? Over to drill bit experts.....

I've got a Bosche SDS jobbie, seems pretty good.

hilti make good masonry bits, not sure if they make non sds ones though

y experience of non SDS drillswas that mst were pretty similar. A mid priced set in Screwfix shold be decent. If you do use SDS though especially for concrete, you'll soon be converted!

I recommend SDS ones. Why use anything else? Unless you are drilling breeze blocks it's not worth it. Ask Santa for a new drill. Mine came from Wickes.

Used Irwin from Screwfix - bought a couple of years ago - they were pretty reasonable.

Would be wary of buying a set of just masonry drills - you'll get ripped off. Best value is often when they are bundled with wood and HSS drills. I don't mean that they are necessarily cheap and nasty, just better value.

I bought one (worked out cheaper than renting) and tore up a load of concrete with it, very impressed

Depends what you plan to do with it.

My one of those handily blew up and pissed all the oil everywhere.

I'd spend a bit more than £30 on an SDS to be honest.

Thread title says drills, some people talking about just drill bits. So apols if I misread.

Would still recommend an SDS drill and bits.

However, top tip having moved into a house with plasterboard walls - start off on "normal", then switch to "hammer" once you have gone through the plasterboard then go to SDS when you hit the tricky stuff.

You'll only leave it on SDS and touch plasterboard once.
