and on again!

Hi,

I need to get a sofa in a flat and its literally 1 cm too big to get through the very narrow door frame. If i was to take a chisel to the wodden door frame thinghy would it likely come off in one piece that i could glue/nail back in or would it just be a disaster?!

Thanks

depends how old it is. if it is a new build , piece of cake. if it is an older property ,might be tricky. can you see any screws? might be filled in.

Do you mean just the door stop, the timber that the door closes against? If so, it will most likely just ease off with a chisel underneath it. Most likely just pinned on.Be prepared for it to bring the paint off the frame aswell, but thats no major problem.
I take it that there are no legs or feet that can come off the sofa? Or a large window for it to come through?

The tip about the door stop is good provided it is a door lining with a seperate stop rather than a casing where the frame is rebated.

Another tip (provided the sofa is not longer than the height of the door) is to rest the sofa on it's end i.e so it's vertical, and the 'twist' it into the room.

Good luck.

That's a proper swing.

Tip of the day: Run a craft-knife down both sides of the doorstop to prevent paint-breakout.
