I have an apartment abroad
and would like to get a house plant
something large,cheese plant type.
are they ok to leave for 3 weeks with no water ?

I have no idea. But buy something like this and it's a non issue anyway.

In winter yes, in summer or a centrally heated room maybe not.

Best way to water a plant fully is to stand it in a sink of water for an hour or two so it can take up what it needs from underneath, then let it drain *thoroughly* before returning to its usual position.

Get a cactus.

Or just close your eyes and pretend you have plants in the house. That way you'll get all the pleasure of 'seeing' them, without any of the hassle and cost of buying, watering and disposing of when they inevitably die. If you get bored of the plants you're imagining, just imagine a different kind.

Abroad, where? Somewhere hot and dry won't be kind to something not used to the climate.
