help choosing a mattress?
Discussion
i need to get a new mattress , wont be spending high end money
i cant really get a good feel in the shops for what i like and theres just so many to choose from online
i have a pocket sprung one now from silent night , its terrible the springs boing and if you get near the edge it colapses and you nearly roll off lol
so... needs to be firm /supoortive up the edge , and dont want nothing that makes me hotter than need be ( im hearing foam ones are hot? )
what style construction should i be looking at?

If you buy a mattress from a shop and you don't like it you're stuffed because you had a chance to try it in the shop (even though lying on a bed for 30 seconds fully clothed is hardly the same as sleeping on it proplery).
However if you get one by mail order the Distance Selling Regulations apply and you do have the option of exchanging it if you don't like it.
I got to learn this the hard way in a bitter six-month dispute with Sleepmasters and their so-called 'independent inspector' who couldn't see a 2" sag if it was rammed up his arse.
Strongly suggest you buy from Asda Direct or Tesco Direct, who are very helpful and actually put the customer first.

Of all the things to skimp your money on, I wouldn't think that a mattress is a particularly good candidate, given the amount of time you're going to spend on it.
But then again, don't make the mistake that I made:
<wibbly screen fade to: The Mattress Shop>
Assistant: "Can I help you?"
Gaspode: "I'm after a mattress"
Assistant: "Certainly, sir, we have a good range. Does Sir have a budget in mind"
Gaspode: "Not really, but I want something pretty good"
Assistant: "Here's our top of the range offering. It's six thousand pounds"
Gaspode: "Christ on a bike!"
We ended up with a Vi Spring. Bloody marvellous.

I have a Relaxan Orthosoft mattress which is great. Nice and firm and not too hot either. It uses layers of material and not foam. I cant recomend it enough.

I got a cheapo memory foam mattresss for the spare bed and it was soft but very very comfy. Very warm though, but got used to it!
So i got a more pricey one for the main bedroom when we'd finished the decorating a heavier density foam, and more ventilation, it is an Ergoflex king size and it was about £450 delivered.
It's far cooler, firmer and seems excellent value, still really comfy but you can tell it is higher quality than the other.
Compared to the previous "orthapaedic" type sprung stuff, they are soooo comfy and my back is so much better as a result.
Worth a look, and if they dont have a "sale" on, call them and they will do them for sale price which is about 50% of RRP.
