Glass Rooflight / Skylight - HOW MUCH ?
Discussion
Hi,
I'm building a new house and want a decent glass skylight in the kitchen approx 2m x 1m.
Ideally a pyramid style frameless type.
Now to me this seems to be 4 pieces of glass stuck together with silicon.
So how on earth is it £2k+ (supply only)
Has anyone made their own or know of any sensibly priced options ?
Also any decent self build forums ?
Cheers

Is there any law that prevents you going to your local glass supplier, ordering four triangles of toughened glass and making it yourself?
There probably is
That is what I'd like to do but as its a new build everything seems more complicated. There probably is

Cold bridging, U values etc
I have tried calling a few manufacturers and am waiting their calls.
If not I think I'll be starting a new business in this, seems like there are some huge profit margins.

True. OK, how about going to your local dougle-glazing manufactory and seeing if they can make you three triangular sealed units? Not quite sure how you'd fix the structure together - some kind of UPC moulding from a conservatory place? - and then some s/a flashing over the top to be sure.
But I expect that wil be illegal too, so you'll have to get your house built first, so the little man from wherever can come in with his clipboard and reflective jacket and sign it off. Then cut a hole in the ceiling and carry on
