i have 30si fitted and have been wondering whats the most economical way of keeping the house warm?
1. do i set the timer for an hour before i get up, run it a full heat for 2 hours then turn it off
have it come on for 5 hours full heat in the evening.

2. leave it on permanent at a low heat so the house never gets cold.

i am thinking it would use much more gas runing at full heat for 7 hours as oppose ticking over for 24 hrs.

anyone done a bill to bill comparison and was the gas used much different?

i live in a modern house with good insulation and have 5 new double radiators.

I don't think there is much in it either way. I leave mine on 24/7 at a low setting, only turning it up a tad when expecting visitors.

I think the difference in cost between the 2 ideas is negligible, but I'd rather have a warm house all day.

Heating on the timer 24/7

Digistat in the hallway. 16'C overnight. Up to 18'C 5am-7am. 17'C 7am-3:30pm. 18'C 3:30pm-9:30pm, then back to 16'C

We have oil, and we do about 2000 litres a year in a 4-bed detached. We also have a wood burner to boost temps in the evening.

Is it not the case that extreme temp differences, which would happen given the minus temps at the moment, would increase the likely build up of condensation on internal surfaces.

Given this has long term implications for mould build up and other nasty stuff it seems kinder to leave the heating on variable program as outlined above. i.e. never actually "off".
