Looking for a builder or window installer.

Need a cat flap installed, preferably in the kitchen door (which is composite and has panels so might not be a straightforward job - it has been suggest two wooden cutouts and cut in to that).

Local glasier has quoted £800+ for a new door!

Recommendations, self or otherwise smile

As long as the panel is flat, it shouldn't be a problem. About a half hour job.
Can you not do it yourself?

(Did you mean the flap is going in the composite panel or in the glass?)

Door is a moulded composite door with a glass panel in the top, but unfortunately no removable panel in the bottom. To make matters worse, the bottom part of the door has two decorative cutouts, so isn't flat.

The flap will either need to be mounted directly and then the gaps filled or better (we think) to fit wooden (or upvc) panels on both sides, covering the cutouts and therefore making a flat area to fit the flap.

Most panels are usually removable, they'll have a tight fitting bead on the inside. If this is the case, lever it out carefully with a scraper, measure it's lenghth, width and thickness and then find a local UPVC window company who'll cut you a flat piece to fit.
Is it white or wood effect? If wood effect, take it with you the get it matched up. (make sure someone stays home while the panel is out!) wink

Thanks for the advice so far.

Looks like a cheap door as it appears to be one moulded piece, except the top panel which looks to be removable in the way you describe.

The bottom of the door doesn't appear to have any removable section.

Does it look anything similar to this?

If so just attack it with a jig saw.

If there is a flat area large enough for the catflap then no problem. But the hole needs to be accurately cut or either the flap won't open fully or the fixing screws will miss, so take it carefully and is there's a template, use it.

You should see one of the other cats. He only just fits through that cat flap and it's the largest you can buy.

911s neighbour would have a coronary if he lived round here.

Can't find a picture at the moment that gives a good impression of his size.

The black and white cat weighs just over 4 kilos.

This one is just over 7 kilos.

Where did you get that from? He's not a domestic cat, you need a licence for one of those.

Be very careful, especially allowing dogs near as leopards are very partial to them.

Great replies smile

Anyway, decided flap would better fit in the conservatory door as we can simply replace one of the glazed panels.

I'd love one of them. Didn't know you could have them as pets though.

Bakc to the cat flap, you just need a 12 bore and a sheet of steel with a rectangle cut out. Put the steel by the door and blast away until you've got a neat hole. smile

Just place a roast chicken on one side of the door and the cat will find a way through.
