Woodburner and chimney liner installation.
Discussion
Hi all
My current want is for a small woodburner in the lounge of our 2 storey 1930s end terrace. the fire place would fit a small woodburner and there is already a decent sized hearth installed. I want it for the lifestyle aspect (nice focal point to the room) and the added warmth it would provide. I'm hoping to do this to a low budget and have sourced a second hand woodburner that would fit for about £200 and i can get a flexible flue pipe for £150-200.
Everyone I have called for a quote for fitting has quoted around £1000- £1200 for installing including providing the flue and flue insulation. this sounds like a hell of a lot of money for something that on the surface seems to be only a couple of hours work.
Is it really neccessary to insulate the flue? is there a more cost effective way of installing it? I was expecting it to cost around £200 (not including the flue pipe)

thanks for the info Paddy- was a good read. from the looks of it it doesnt look outside the realms of a DIY job.
I guess it depends on the cost of the local authority approvals? Definately doesnt seem like £1000s worth of work to me. especially if it doesnt need insulating. I think my chimney has a concrete/ clay lining anyway so that should help matters.
