After weeks of waiting and several building societies, I have finally received approval for my mortgage. Good to know there are some building societies out there who are actually lending again. FTB 90%LTV for those that are interested. Hopefully complete early January!

Just thought I'd share. As you were.

PS, Mods, feel free to move to houses, or economics, or anywhere you like really.

Me too, gave my one month notice to the letting agent today, and the place I'm buying is empty, so that should reduce the number of potential cock-ups. I hope.

Seriously though, if the application was any more in-depth they'd be asking for school reports. So glad it's over.

Two year fixed, and because I now have a job which allows me to spend 6 months in the country so I wanted somewhere to live. Why now? I'm buying somewhere to live, not buying as an investment, and hopefully it is big enough to see us through the next few years without having to worry about moving again.

Ironically, it comes at just the right time for me with a couple of loan accounts just closed, should acually be a little better off than this time last year. Do have a fair bit of furniture to buy though, as it's a lot bigger than my rented flat.

thumbup Just wondered what your thinking was on interest rates. Great time to buy I'd have thought - well done smile

Keep an eye on freecycle, ask your mates etc. It's usually quite easy to find things that will tide you over for a couple of years.

Sorry, read the "why?" part to mean "why are you buying now?". Figured fix for two years, overpay as much as I can, then fix again for a longer term, before the rates rise to silly levels. [/evil laugh]. Really though, I was just glad to get anything I could.

Interesting, thanks. I am sitting pretty on a tracker just now but there's always the nagging feeling that interest rates might go stratospheric in a year or two scratchchin

With the Newcastle Building Society. Had a positive initial response from the Leeds, but due to the nature of my work, the underwriters said no. Same with Yorkshire. Both had some good deals though. In the end had to pay over the odds for a FTB mortgage, but it was the only way I could work it. Only borrowed 2/3 of my maximum which probably helped my case too. Good luck!

Congratulations!

Just been through the same thing and complete mid Jan all being well! I'm with Natwest on a tracker deal, saved me 60 quid a month as opposed to a fixed and I can't see interest rates moving massively in the next two years.

Hope everything goes through smoothly for you smile

We have just fixed our mortgage for another 5 years as was concerned about a rise in interest rates.

Went with Yorkshire Building Society and even managed to reduce the term by 5 years and pay similar to what I paid on my last fixed rate that finished in March.

If you're not too fussy about design/colour, ask your workmates. When I was in your position a surprising number of people offered me free stuff - curtains, bookcase, dressing table, TV unit - just to clear their garages I think. All quite horrible really but an improvement on what I had - 1x deckchair and 1x coffee table!

Matt..
