I'm hoping to be finally moving house on Monday and wondered if anyone has advice on transporting the fridge.

Its one of the big american style ones and I was wondering if they have to be moved upright or can they be shifted lying down on their back.

If they can lay down then it may fit in my dad's van and it would save us having to hire a bigger one.

Thanks

I am led to believe fridges are ok on their side, but freezers don't like to be anything other than upright.
Bet hey, don't blame me if you break it!

you should be ok laying it on it's side but let it sit upright for a while before plugging it in again. For freezers I think it's 24 hours.

If you have to tip it over to move it be carefull of all the working bits at the back, pipes are easily bent or broken, you will also need to leave it to "rest" before swiching it on again (a day or so).

Ah, no longer in the Lounge I see.

OK, I moved our big American-style fridge in the back of a pick-up on its side (the fridge, not the pick-up!) as it was the only way it would fit in. It was fine. They are a lot lighter than you might think. Put some padding around it to avoid scratches.

As others have said leave it upright for 24 hours before switching back on, it lets the compressor oil sort itself out.

In the meantime you can keep stuff cool by leaving it outside..
