heating oil...waxing up??

my oil fired boiler is playing up and wont fire but it has been very,very cold here minus 12-14
it was recently filled so i assume it will have had the anti freeze in it, is this possible its freezing up?

A cursory google indicates that the gel point of heating oil is around -10c. Sounds like this could be your issue.

Would a small amount of petrol do the same, similar to using in diesel vehicles?

i have been told a bit of parrafin does the job

Would also check for any water in the filter (if has one) as this can freeze and stop the flow.

Basically paraffin is what you are already using,also known as C2,Kero II.
