I live a 6 year old 2 bed apartment. The central heating works fine, but in my main bedroom the temperature is always low.

The room has patio style doors, onto a railing (i'd like to say balcony, but it isn't really), and there is also a doorway into a small ensuite shower room. The patio doors and ensuite window face the same direction. Mounted over the patio doors, i have extremely thick, lined curtains which reach all the way to the floor.

The problem is, this room is always cold, even with the radiator turned up, curtains closed and make shift draught excluders along the bottom of the curtains and ensuite door.

Whats going on and how can i improve the situaion?

What's above you? If a loft, check your insulation and top up if required.

If that's OK, see here... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luxury-Hungarian-Goose-Dow...

Have you got some of the behind radiator reflective insulation? Reflects heating back into room rather than heating a colder outside wall, bit like:

How big is the rad?

We had the same problem in our master bedroom. Could never get it warm. Put in a bigger rad problem solved.

The room heats up nicely and the stat on the wall now knocks off and on as I would like. Before the heating was on all the time and never reached the 18c selected on the bedroom stat in cold weather.

Plumber friend has also told me the rest of the rads in the house are a bit on the small size for the size of the rooms hence why the house is a bit cold and slow to reach temp at times.

Going to put a bigger rad in the bathroom and the living room when I have some spare cash as apparently the boiler is big enough.

Currently only using 15 quid a week with a pay as you go gas meter. 4 bedroom house, zoned heating set 18c upstairs and 19c downstairs hallway.

Two points here...

Firstly, is the radiator running at the correct temperature. Flow should be 80 degrees really. If it isn't, then you'll NEVER beat the heat losses for the room. Boiler thermostat should be a little off maximum.
Second, NHBC used to specify the heating running constantly as their 'method', so anyone working to this may well put in radiators smaller than you might think are necessary.
