Does anyone have any experience of these? What are the good makes? Are there any to avoid? Are SMEG any good??

SMEG reported by many to be smegging awful

Don't buy one unless you know you can get it into the house as they are well big

Also be aware alot of them with a drinks dispensor and ice maker need a water supply which is why we bought one without an ice maker.

^^ What he said.

They are excellent, though, if you can get one that fits your house. You can get loads into them. We've got a Samsung, and the only caveat I can see so far is that the fruit and veg trays at the bottom appear to be made of the most fragile plastic available. I replaced a broken lid of one after about 5 months of use and now it's broken again! But it can stay broken this time. mad

We bought one without an ice maker too, but it's no real hassle to remember to fill up the ice box they provide with the freezer if you don't opt for a plumb-in unit.

We have a plumbed in Samsung one, it was there when we moved in. It's great, lots of room, easy to change the layout to accomodate larger items. The only downside is you have to change the water filter about every 9 months, which takes about 20minutes.

Subzero http://www.subzero.com/ are supposed to be the best. We have a GE side by side. Have also had Maytags and Whirlpools in the past. Mostly side by sides. Happy to answer any specific questions...

I've got two, one in UK and one in our house in France. One LG and the other Samsung and both plumbed in for ice and water.

One thing to check if you're getting one with water feed is, is the water chilled? First one we bought from Currys (can't remember the brand) but the spotty yoof in the shop said it was chilled water and when they delivered it and I read the destructions it turned out not to be chilled water just ambient temperature. Since I like chilled water in my scotch and that's what I wanted to buy, I had a bundle with Curry's (they tried to fob me off then offered me money back to keep it) but they eventually changed it for the LG.

Both fridges are first class and coming up to five years old now.

Personally I couldn't buy a product called Smeg, but there's plenty of chavs living in council house who do, so each to their own

I've had a Samsung for about 6 years which has been faultless.

Plumbed in for ice & water.

Just don't buy the filters from where you buy the fridge from!

Currys wanted £180 for 3 (you can only buy them in 3s!).

Googled the part number from the filter and now get them delivered for about £13 as and when I need them.

I have a kitchen company, the brands I'd recommend are Liebherr, Maytag, sub zero, and Amana not in any particular order but you do tend to get what you pay for.
Prices go from about £1300 to £8000.

I have a daewoo,( or is it a Chevrolet now?) and had it for about 8 years. Not plumbed in as was in rented accommodation. Absolutely love it. When we looking to buy, my 2 criteria were :
Off road parking with easy access for 3 cars
And
Fit my fridge in.

Had to remove a cupboard but we got the fridge in. Could not go back to little fridge now as it us currently stuffed full ready for lots of entertaining!

I assume you live in the UK? call Samsung, there have been at least 2 recalls on these. One is the addition of some safety fuses and the other concernes the evaporator covers. If yours is 6 years old then it definatly needs doing. Quote them the serial number. (its on the rating plate stuck inside the fridge)
