So who else is suffering from this cold spell other than the roads.

Pipes are starting to freeze at home(built 1960s) and getting a shower this morning was very interesting with the water going hot and then very fking cold every ten seconds.
Have had to buy a few gallons of water to keep in the house, and have a second set of water bottles for the rabbits that we swop morning and evening.

So what else is starting to cause you problems with the ongoing freeze.

Had a burst pipe yesterday in the kitchen. Can't use any of the lights or sockets in there for at least 24hrs.

Hot water pipe gets frozen on a regular basis, used a hair dryer to defrost it so I suspect that will burst anytime soon.

Not really had any issues this year except for the water pipe to the garage freezing so the washing machine stopped working. I only had to pour some warm water down the pipe to cure that one though.

Last year, the boiler's condensation outlet pipe froze solid so the boiler shut down. That was quite annoying.

My mum having major problems in her house, boiler going off- sink and toilet pipes freezing over.
Not good.

Our kitchen sink's drainpipe froze too 2 days ago- that was interesting.

Girlfriend's house has no hot shower currently, and the Poles that live downstairs have a broken boiler so it must be arctic in their flat!

Not had any problems so far, did worry a little when the washer was gurgling yesterday, thinking the outpipe was blocked, but it seems to be ok (well my kitchen isn't under water yet)

For anyone with problems, would it be interesting to edit your posts to include when your house was built?

We've been caught out by the heating oil debacle/shortage. We have about 400 litres, so enough to get by normally, but as we're at home for the next 2 weeks, and it's f-cold, we have to take it easy. So woodburner on most the day and thermostat down.

No great hardship really.

Ouch. 400 litres lasts us about 4 months.

We do about 2000 a year (4 bed detached with a 25 year old boiler). Just being at home 24 hours really drinks it. Though I have to say that this has been a lesson in managing it more frugally. I've turned down the overnight temp 16 to 13. Sleeping much better as a result.

Our boiler packed up on Sunday night when it was -6c outside, we had a very cold night until a very nice PH'r posted about a frozen condensation pipe on his boiler!

Went outside to the boiler and bingo, pipe frozen solid! 5 Days later its still frozen, and the boiler drips in to a bucket!

Thanks PistonHeads, we have been toasty and warm all week (and no call out charge thumbup )

I've had one set of rear guttering replaced. Not too pricy. I hope it stays up this time.

Heavy snow plus slate roof equals snow sliding off roof.

My pal has had a problem. He's in Switzerland (in a part where there's no snow, apparently).

Meanwhile, back at base...

Forecast -18 to -20 tonight.

Crossed fingers but nothing gone pop as yet. Plenty of oil to see out the cold months, and another hour slaving over a hot log splitter will keep the Clearview firing, so should hopefully stay toasty tomorrow.

Block up the airbricks during really cold spells if underfloor pipes are freezing Piece of plywood and a brick cuts the airflow. Remove in March

But apart from that, what's all the fuss about, eh?
