DFS Sofas - any good?
Discussion
My OH wants 2 new sofas, we went down to DFS and they have a sale and 4 years finance nothing to pay for a year. Trustedreviews of DFS indicate that customer sofa's are not as good as the ones in the showroom, lacking padding.
I would prefer to go to John Lewis and pay through the nose for a bank loan.
Are there any other suppliers we are missing?

Went last year to Nottm DFS, and got a BIg sofa (not the ones in the sales - typical). Bang on with delivery date. Had slight problem with it though, there was an uneven gap in the leather between end chair and mid section, man came out with hairdryer to smooth it out. Didnt work. OH said she wanted the sofa replacing. Another ten weeks wait. Second one came, same problem. Ones in showroom didnt show this problem. We want another one please, and before it leaves your factory check it. Another ten weeks, got a new one, spotless, fine, colour great. TBH excellent service from the men, great courtesy, nothing a problem, couldnt help any better. For the price, I think they are worth it, as after three years time, we'll probably change it again as she gets a little restless with the lounge you know.......I would prefer to go to John Lewis and pay through the nose for a bank loan.

Anyway, thumbs up for me for DFS, cheap and cheerful, just go for the standard lines, not the ones advertised on telly. (ours is never in the sales, still)
Matt
The short answer? No.
The finance isn't free, the costs are just loaded onto the price of a pretty poor quality sofa that without all the advertising and finance costs would work out at about a 1/4 of the sale price.
Bought several items from these guys. Nice people to deal with and good quality products.

Are you taking the piss? She wants a chesterfield suite, not much change out of £4k. I have just been browsing the website as I was worried about what happens to the 0% finance if you miss a payment, no sign of the small print on their web site. I can only imagine that they have you by the short and curlies.
I have found a chap who makes chesterfields on ebay, just does one a week. The same price as DFS, would have to borrow the money though through the bank.

I suspect they're like Sleepmasters/Dreams; ie run by a clever bunch of Directors who think only of maximising their own profit, buying as cheaply as possible from China and advertising the nuts off it. And if it goes tits up, they'll just run off and start again but called DSF.
Bit harsh as they have been around since 1983.lost in espace said:

I don't get the idea of buying a massively expensive pair of sofa's / suite. Maybe I could understand it if I knew for a fact that I wasn't going to be moving house ever again.
Will, just built the house not planning on moving for 10 years fingers crossed though.NO!
Leather. Cost £1000. payed in full with no credit even though they kept trying to push it all the time and were quite disappointed in us not taking it up.
In 5 years (is that a reasonable lifetime?). Arms have ripped and the seats on the sofa have broken or sagged.
To be really honest, next time we will get a really good 2nd hand one from the local auction.
