For a standard 3 bed house with 1 bathroom and 1 ensuite. I'm looking at something like this:
http://www.bhl.co.uk/product/VAILLANT_ECOTEC_PLUS_...
Whatever I buy will be ample for the GCH requirements, but with two bathrooms I'm more interested in the hot water flow rate which this one does pretty well on.

I presume all combi's are going to have a 15mm hot water output and struggle to power two showers at once?

I'm happy spending 1k, wouldn't want to go above about £1500 though

Ferg the PH Plumber recommends Remeha (which sounds like a cross between a remora and a Yamaha but is neither).

We have a Worcester Greenstar 30CDI combi gas boiler and have had no problems at all in the last 3 years.

I like long showers and its provides a good hot water supply to a thermostatic shower mixer and ditto with our cast iron bath.

We ran a new 22mm water supply to the boiler and also a 28mm gas supply into the house to allow for the demand of the boiler and a free standing cooker. Fortunately my dad is a gas safe engineer so wasnt too involved and we did it when we were doing the whole house up.

We had a Vaillant in our last house and the only problem we had with it that was a diverter valve that went within 6 months but was covered under warranty.

On the same subject (and not worth starting a new toppic on) I am looking at replacing my boiler; 28 years old, Potterton, built with the house, conventional open system - and someone told me that all new instllations have to be "closed systems" with pressurised heating. Is this correct?

Thanks guys - they both look very impressive - the Vaillant seems to have an inbuilt HW storage as well as a high flow rate and the Worcester also seems to have good performance for a very appealing price. I just need to decide if the HW storage is wortht teh extra

Cheers!

I have one similar to the one you linked to.

It's been brilliant in the 5yrs it's been installed.

It did need a new valve not long after being installed, but was replaced very, very efficiently. I'm pretty sure this was down to crap clagging up the valve - I live in a very old property and the boiler was part of a full refurb. It's not happened since.

A wireless thermostat is a useful option. I'm pretty sure you can "zone" the heating too (with options), which would be worth looking into.
