We have a Baxi back boiler providing hot water and central heating. Controlling this is a rather ancient AMF timer unit with one of those piss-awful rotary dial contraptions for setting the on-off times.

I see from this page that a two-channel (i.e. hot water/heating) can be had for a measly £27 or so.

Now, from a wiring point of view, is this thing a straightforward replacement job or is it going to be an arseache, best left to a professional sparky?

Not difficult.
Horstmann are not the most reliable though. Is it a gravity hot water or fully pumped system?

Pumped, I think.

My wife recently replaced a Horstmann timer to a Potterdon boiler, both Horstmann's web site for manuals, and their telephone help lines were a great help.
