Having just had a new kitchen fitted, I've bought a new washing machine. The problem Is, it's throwing itself around the room with almighty bangs and sounding like it's going to take off! I assume this is down to balancing it...but I've tried setting it flat with the feet and a spirit level bit it's still awful...any tips?!

Cheers,

Dom

You have removed the bit that holds the drum down whilst it is in transit? Not taking the pee , I did this once myself

Usually 2 or 3 bloody great long bolts in the back of it, covered by plastic caps, see here for an example:

or you might need to take the top off the machine where there will be a large metal bracket securing the drum from moving during transit. If it's not removed, the drum's centrifugal force can't be absorbed by the shock absorber/springs, so instead the force is sent through the whole chassis.

I've never had to remove the top off a washing machine and have fitted loads, there is usually a big sticker on the back pointing to the transit bolts in big red letters saying REMOVE BEFORE USE !

I have, both on a Bosch (16 years ago) and a Smeg (5 years ago).

My old man had a tumble dryer (still does actually, a VERY elderly hoover) where he had to remove the top of it to remove some transit strapping. I only know this because he usually has it apart every few years to fit new bearings. It must be getting on for 40 years old now; I've not seen anything apart from bolts on anything newer than that.

Cheers guys - now sorted, was actually quite complicated and involved balancing the machine to within 1 degree on mutliple axis. Took the back off and found the drum wasn't actually perfectly weighted side to side so I stripped it down and found casting defects in a number of parts, took them home and dynamically balanced them on the lathe like a real man...machine is now running whisper silent, but thanks for the tips!

Dom

(Or you were all right, page one of the manual said to remove the 4 bolts....said bolts had big red arrows pointing to them. Bolts removed, machine running perfectly.)

rofl My sister had a similar 'problem' with her WM. She failed to spot the instructions on removing top of WM and removing the Styrofoam packaging before use; never did run smooth and, was always having problems with it after that.

Alright, help... I have taken the access panel at the back off, and got to the pump assembly as below:

Now, I am unfamiliar with the big white clips. I take it that a) they are an alternative to jubilee clips and b) are undoable.

However, how do I undo them? Have been poking about with a screwdriver with limited success. Secondly, are they single-use- Will I be able to replace them or need to go and buy a replacement jubilee clip?

I take it the filter would be on the "hose" side of the pump??
