I've got a goose down duvet at the moment, but after buying a new bed today I'm looking to buy a new set of everything.

I quite like my down duvet, but its a bit flat these days. Have synthetic duvets moved on over the last 10 years? Any recommendations for a new duvet?

So, while I'm asking questions about bedding on a car forum, does anyone know if you can buy Heavenly (or similar) pillows in the UK? I use them a lot in the US, but am not over again until Feb to pick some up.

Finally - Egyptian cotton sheets, or is something else the rage these days (leather/pleather/satin excepted)? Does anybody know of a reliable online supplier?

I spent north of £500 on four pillows and a KS duvet a couple of years ago. My only regret: not doing so years sooner.

Totally recommended - http://www.duvetandpillowwarehouse.co.uk/default.h...

For decent priced eygiptian cotton try TK Maxx. I would never pay £60 for a sheet from John Lewis when you can get something of the same quality from TK's for £15

Agreed, you can get a 310 threadcount cotton King Size duvet set (duvet cover, sheets, pillow cases) for £35 there. Absolute bargain for very good quality sheets.

Natural fillings all the way. You'll sweat like a rapist in anything artificial.

My advice would be to buy the best quality mattress, duvet and pillows you can afford, and invest in pillow and mattress protectors to help keep these clean / minimise allergies.

Bottom sheets can be economised on I think, duvet covers and pillowcases less so. The White Company has a good range at all price points, though bear in mind the stuff needs ironing.

Thanks guys (and simpo for the laugh).

The bed was reduced to bargain level in John Lewis sale, so is hopefully a good one (was certainly very comfortable).

I'm going to stick with natural fibres, but was to find something which stays fluffed up. My girlfriends duvet is awesome, but can only be bought in the US, and shipping would be a nightmare.

I quite like synthetic pilows, as I like them quite firm and springy.

I'm looking at a mattress topper too now - having slept on pillow topped beds in America, I think I'd like a little piece of that in my life!

I'll have a look in TK Maxx for some undersheets and am told Bicester Village is good for The White Company and Ralph Lauren home for duvet covers and pilowcases.

I'm more excited about this purchase than I really should be.

The Ralph Lauren stuff is tat, TK Maxx is full of that too, and its worse qaulity than most of the other stuff they have in there.

I'm in love with my synthetic down duvet and pillows. Sold under a few different brand names, no doubt. All the softness and warmth of down, but it'll go in the washing machine and be dry within a few hours. Bliss.

I bought a cheap synthetic duvet and whilst it's warm, it doesn't snuggle round, it prefers to make a 45-degree slope on each side. Just isn't cosy.

Have duck down duvet and pillows from John Lewis. Since buying them they have made stay overs at parents or friends just slightly less pleasent as the rubbish synthetic duvets that they have feel like cardboard in comparison.

I have always wanted to do the Austrian idea of 2 x single duvets for a double bed. That way neither partner gets labelled a bed piggy by hogging the duvet.
