Timber Garage, how much??
Discussion
Has anyone any idea how much it will cost me to build a timber garage?? Sizes will be roughly 12' long by 11' wide, standard height. I was thinking of using 4"x2" for the framework, then insulating and sheeting the inside. Just wondering if anyone has built similar recently? I'll be buying the timber and building it myself, so really the cost will be associated with materials only.
Are you putting down a concrete raft base? With damp course? Is the timber going to be Tanalised (I'd suggest it's worth it for the longevity).
Must admit I didn't build my own - but got a company called Passmores to do mine - excellent job and highly recommended.
If you want a link to a good timber supplier - http://www.beaumontforest.co.uk/Home
Give them a ring and they'll price up the material list.....

Sorry, should have said, the base is already there. I'm replacing a concrete sectional garage.
My mate recently built an office at the foot of his garden, and I remember he paid £4.75 for a 4.8m length of 4"x2" CLS, which I thought was excellent. It was based on this that I decided to build the timber garage. The concrete one is constantly cold and it's leaking now which isn't good! I reckon the dearest part will be the tongue and groove for the exterior.

I had a timber workshop/garage built - 24' x 20’ - £4,400
I looked at building my own, but it needs
a) A lot of time.
b) A huge amount of favours calling in to help you do it.
It came from these guys

It looks like this, although mine has one door.
And yes, it isn’t big enough; one twice the size would be suitable.
The fitters do like their nail gun – in my opinion, a bit too much - so I ended up replacing all the nails with stainless steel screws and coach screws outside, and now all the internal nails that I could get at, have now been replaced, with quality screws and coach screws.

I have a timber double garage and i love it, feels a much warmer place to be compared with a block built garage and i have had many compliments form folk walking past.. I have recently built a workshop onto the back of it for some extra space and have opened up through from the garage, feels really big now and a good place to work on the cars.. The garage is 6m x 4.5m and the workshop is 4.5m x 2m.. it's all finished now and looking good but the weather has been crap for the last 2 months so no decent finished pics..
Garage front

Garage rear / workshop

The garage cost 4500 and was installed in two days, no nails etc, just a bit like a giant jigsaw, the workshop must have cost a few hundred quid i think...

Got mine from www.meritgardenproducts.co.uk Very pleased and GVM.
OP you say you are replacing a concrete sectional, I am planning on doing the same. Are you going to have a timber garage of the same size as the original? I was thinking of adding another 1-2m in length so there's enough room for a car and the usual s
t that ends up in the garage.
I found some very good prices and designs when I looked into this before Christmas but I can't find the site I was on again now. Have you decided to go down the self build route or buy a kit?

I seriously considered building a timber garage to replace my asbestos eyesore. about the same size as yours was looking around £900 all in, but a lot depends on the timber for the cladding as you say. This was using farily cheap roofing (corrigated sheet) IIRC.
HOWEVER, I've changed all that and am looking at block type construction, as looking at the building regs you will get grief if it's not non-combustible within a metre of the boundary and over 15sqm. Worth taking a look at the planning portal and building regs just in case. Part P will apply whatever you do by the way.
