First time buyer research- PH help needed!!!

Hello PH,
I am considering a move out of london. With current prices, wages, cost of living and conditions of the housing stock within the west/north west greater London region where I currently live, it looks like a good idea to move slightly outside the M25 for much better quality of life for cheaper.
I have seen a development in the Leighton Buzzard area near Bollington road, very close to the bypass. Commute times into london looks very good compared to commuting from Zone 5 to Zone 1 !!!
My question to PH is...what is the area like? We are planning to settle down and have kids soon and hope the area is good for another 10 years before we need to re-assess ourselves.
I prefer this area to very congested areas like dunstable and luton, just dont know what leighton Buzzard is like. I would love to have a pint and steak at a good local pub and make friends in the local area as time passes. Congested, dense population is not our thing.
So what do you think???
PS: I love the roads around there! My MCS was laughing it's little headlights off!
