I have a AEG undercounter fridge which was bought new in 2002. I am wondering if its now time for a new one. My main concern is due to its age its consuming alot of electricity when compared to a new one? Is it worth changed. I am looking at a new Zanussi one.

Zanussi, Electrolux and AEG are all the same company ( BSH ) I'd be tempted to go for a Bosch if the budget allows.

How much electricity is your current fridge using?
What would be the payback time based on electricity saved?
Do you keep it reasonably well stocked? Without overfilling a full fridge should be more efficient than one partially filled (providing things are cool before being put in).
Have you checked the actual capacity compared to your current fridge? More insulation gives better power consumption but less capacity.

By the way John Lewis own brand usually made in same factory as Zanussi (our JL hob is identical except for the name)

I think a lot of JL's own brand is from the BSH group

This. Spending £500 to save £20 year isn't sensible.

Wait for it to break naturally smile

Zanussi, electrolux and AEG etc are all one group, But it's not BSH!

BSH is Bosch, Neff, Siemens and Gaggenau.

All BSH Fridges are ok, Bosch especially, but AEG are also pretty good appliances. Difficult to say if it's worth replaceing just because it's 6 years old. There's an argument to say 'if it's not broke, don't fix it"!

Simple answer, no.

From energyrating.gov.au the difference between worst and best small fridges is 1kW hour a day, so in reality you could perhaps save a maximium of say forty quid a year.

Hi, it's not very original, but they are called the "electrolux group"!

And fair cop on the spelling, too many E's! That's the downside of typing from an iPad whilst on the train! Will spell check next time!
