Our friends in transits have paid another visit.

I am getting bored of this now. I don't like it when I am here on my own with the children. They know and I know I have to give them whaever they want. So far it hasn't come to that but I know only too well what they are prepared to do.

I lights, cameras, bolts, padlocks and a puppy who will grow into a dog!. The police have been around and have told us not to use obvious chains and padlocks as they know they can cut them in seconds and be in. They recommended discreet security.

I would really like to have a rant about them.I am always nice and polite and play the nice but dim wife when they come around - I am sure I have said this beforew but I found them rooting around in my sheds once when I was upstairs with my baby.

Any bright ideas?

This is a new one to me. Do people just turn up and demand stuff from you by threat?

Not quiet ! They seem to be able to take anything they want and Police have admitted they cant' do anything about it. But when 2or 3 of them turn up .... if they get shirty with me which they have done with other people in the area - what do I do? They ran over a farm owner recently who tried to stop them nicking machinery.

No. It was witnessed by a former police officer too.

The pikeys haven't made me threat yets but they have taken a lot of stuff - metal, wheels, trailer, oil. I know they simply threaten other people and I don't want that. From previous times I have been simply amazed that they would go through my sheds knowing I was there - they carried on after I shouted hello from the upstairs window. One opened the door once.
I think any of the several lots we have had around - they seem to come in 2 or 3s - would know that if they threaten me or my children..I would give them what they want - as the police would advise. The police warned me they do try and steel stuff without being seen but sometimes if you catch them in the act - they simply threaten you or batter you. I really mustn't loose my temper with them.

ETA I do have the alarm with panic button - shame it's not wired in but pikeys dont' know that.

Cameras?

Floodlights with sensors?

Alarm system with panic button?

Shotgun?

Axe?

Pity boobytrapping is illegal...

The irony is that if you nicked something from them you'd be jailed instantly.

Scumbags.

Start with plenty of lights with sensors, reasonably cheap and quite quick to get them fitted.

Obviously need to be fitted at high level.

Rig up a simple alarm to the shed door , even a battery operated one for now .

If you have gates , start closing closing them .

I really do despair when it comes to pikeys. A mate had his quad knicked. He went with the Police to show them it in the pikey camp and the Police simply did nothing apart from drive in the other direction after telling him there wa nothing they could do.

The same with another mate who had his racing hovercraft knicked. He had spent thousands of pounds and hours of his time making it for the World Champs and the Police did nothing.

When I lived near Aylesbury there was a pikey funeral there. The Police made all the pubs close for the weekend! They literally shut Aylesbury because of the pikey scum...no, wait, for once the pikey's did us a favour there!

12 bore and a bag of rice/rock salt....

On a serious not though i have had a lot of hassle with Pikeys in the past too, even when they've seen me they still have the balls to nonchalantly mooch around my yard. Scum.

you need to find a way to increase the police response time. being on the firearms register is one way, but having your panic button wired might be easier!

we were plagued by pikeys at work, the largest theft being 20ton and £200k of electrical transformers! the only arrest were made when the police searched the van of anyone detained by security. anything that can be classed as a weapon (blade, bat etc.) allows charges to be brought more easily.

unfortunately for you, they know you're an easy target. increase security, keep anything they want out of sight, give plod a reason to get there quicker. when it becomes a hassle over a bit of scrap and some castrol, they'll leave you alone.

might be worth posting in sp&l.

I'd head more towards these: http://www.tlsfx.co.uk/p-14-thunder-flash-mark-5.a...

If I were you I'd be putting some money towards some blokes bigger than them - especially if they are just letting themselves in with your children present.

I may be wrong here but is it scrap metal they are mainly after??

If so - 'apparently' they are tightening laws on who can scrap metal at scrap yards which should hopefully be a massive step forward.

Seems unlikely that a woman on her own with children is going to suddenly go Charles Bronson with a shotgun, would any of us really pull the trigger over theft of property with all the implications that it has. (sorry if I am wrong coco)

I'd be visiting my neighbours, jointly writing to the chief inspector, local MP, newspapers, Police complaints, Local Mayor etc etc - insisting....insisting that police allocate resources to deal with these thefts.

Next time - open the upstairs window and take pictures, see if a group of locals can be formed as a response, mobile numbers etc - people you can call on. It may only need another car to pull in the drive and they will be off.

Gates, Cameras, wire in the panic button, get some locals involved.

No shotgun for me thank you.
I can deal with the thefts. Sadly it wasn't castrol they nicked. It was a large amount.

I hate feeling scared in my own home. Nicking stuff is one thing - knowing they are prowling about makes me feel small.

All these people advising flashbangs and the like - the pikey's will just come back the next day pissed off, and firebomb the OP's house (although i'm sure you're only half serious). Its a stty situation to be in; any steps to deal with it ala the above will probably just make it worse, a lot lot worse.

It sounds from your posts that you have alot of stuff they want and its easy to get to and they know it.
I would be speaking to a professional security company and seeing if they could help.

Sorry to hear of your predicament, Coco.
If the police show no signs of helping, then perhaps an e-mail to your MP may help. Chances are your MP will then have a word with your local police inspector. Has been known to work in the past (personal experience) so worth an E-mail. http://www.writetothem.com/
