Mine is up for renewal, and I've had the renewal through at over £500! This is for a 2 bed detatched house. £16k contents and £150k rebuild.

I've had a look online at the usual comparisons and all seem to be £400+ but one has come up at £160. Fantastic I think, but its almost too good to be true.

Its with the underwriter "MMA Insurance", quoted on GoCompare. Ever heard of this? Is there anyway to check them out?

I am too. It is a simply worded full cover policy and it lays the nuts and bolts out clearly. You don't get the impression they are going to hide behind "words"

Thanks, will give them a go.

Just got some more quotes, then looked at reviews, Endsleigh, it seems most don't get rated very highly. Suppose any people doing false claims and getting found out are going to rate them down!

ETA: Hiscox came in at £1000 with a £250 excess! They must be good to be able to charge that.

Try "teachers assurance" you don't have to be a teacher (i'm not)...

Good price and terms and when I claimed for a smashed window it was no bother.

I got similar with Hiscox.

I pay £220 for buildings & contents with accidental damage on both and £50 excess with Liverpool Victoria. House value is anything up to £1M and the contents rate is the same for all vaues up to, I think it was, £60K).

I think their rates are very area dependant though.
