Well this time it wasn't. I spent the whole of today servicing and refurbing our 10 year old Honda IZY mower for the first time in its life. This involved crazy amounts of engine degreasing, hammering, WD40-ing, sanding, Hammeriting, and greasing. Finally about an hour ago I was just putting the new spark plug when my dad comes along. I give him one simple task. To put in the fresh oil.

I see that he puts too much in. As in it's overflowing from the cap. I tell him too much oil is bad but he disagrees saying, 'the oil supplied from Honda is in a 600ml container so it clearly drinks 600ml.'

I warned him again but he just wasn't listening. So I wanted to prove my point and let him turn it on. At which point it starts smoking like a crazy Jamaican motherfker with a truckload of weed with only 1 day left to live.

I'm fuming now. I don't give a st about the lawnmower too much since he paid for it and all but for his own sake since I feel a bit sorry for his naiveness I hope I can sort it out tomorrow.

I'm guessing I should just drain the excess oil, take out the sparkplug and pull the handle some to get rid of any in the engine and clean the plug, then just turn it on and hope it hasn't shat itself?

rofl I buy two-stroke oil for various garden machinery in 5 litre containers, doesn't mean the strimmer can take it all at once biggrin

biggrin So in the morning my dad went to remove the excess oil. However he starts arguing with me that he should just turn the mower on and let it burn off the excess oil. I just locked him out of the garage. Simple.

Thankfully no damage was done and it's running like a peach.
