I have just had a Potterton 28I (29Kw) moved as part of a major kitchen/diner knock through. I have had to remove some rads, pending shifting them. So currently there are 6 small/medium rads on the system. It is basically working, but the rads do not get 'that' hot, dosn't matter what temp etc I choose. The boiler fires up for say 20 seconds, then just pumps for a minute or so, before firing again. Is it because there are not enough radiators to make it work properly? 2 big radiators will be reconnected in a week or 2, but would be good to know. Many thanks!

Is it short circuiting through one radiator? Or a bypass? If it's sensing a hot return it'll think the system is hot and the thermostat will shut it down.

I did wonder that, and have spent ages trying to balance the few remaining rads!. I have been tinkering & it seems better now I have reduced the central heating water temp. I did wonder if changing the pump speed may help, but it is fixed speed...

All Ok now thanks, refitted 2 large rads after a relocating pipework. I guess the boiler wasn't happy before. Must be a minimum output requirement as well as max?
