I've got a leather sofa which is years old and was considering cleaning it up a bit. I don't want an "as new" finish but was wondering what I could use. Are there specific sofa cleaning polishes? and what do people think of them?

The sofa is black by the way.

Thank you

Normal baby/wet wipes work fine for me.

Leather wipes which you can get from any supermaket.

Don't use baby wipes as it can start to remove the stain from the leather (well it does on my sofa). Baby wipes can be used to clean EVERYTHING else in the world though.

The first step is to remove the dirt. Warm water with some gentle soap is best.

Then feed the leather with some neetsfoot oil.

Autoglym leather cleaner and leather feeder are good. I used to use them on my old leather sofa and i acheived good results.

You can get proper leathercare kits from a decent furniture shop. They're not expensive

These give a cleaner and then a protectant to seal the leather.

They're good. DO NOT use baby wipes or something else not designed for the material.

Good advice. Mrs Pints spilt a tube of that water-free hand cleaner on our leather sofa a few months back.

It took me many hours of leather polish and elbow grease to get it sorted.

Indeed they do - must be almond oil or something.
Much better than the cheapo Mr Sheene ones.

Can't stand that smell so may go for the "cheapo" ones.

Any of the following:
www.lttsolutions.net
www.furnitureclinic.co.uk
www.drleather.com

What they don't know about leather isn't worth knowing.
