Hi,

Just wanted to ask if theres anything glaringly obvious that I might have done (or not done) to all the electrical heaters in our flat.

The heaters are just regular electric convection heaters (not storage) and they all have an independent fuse board. During the summer we noticed that the odd heater worked at times and it was very temperamental.

I'm assuming the heaters haven't broken (or at least they all haven't broken at the same time) so first thing I've checked were the fuses which are all fine. From there I've checked that none of the individual fuses on the fuse board have tripped and their all fine.

Other than these things, is there anything else that can have caused all the heaters to have stopped working. The fuseboard also has a main fuse on top of all the individual fuses. Could this be the problem - do these fuses tend to go wrong often.

Thanks

Is there a timer anywhere in the circuit?

I have seen the panel convector heaters in flats controlled by a central programmer via a pilot wire or mains bourne signalling set up.

If your heaters are controlled in such a manner it may be an issue with the programmer either being faulty / turned off / set wrong etc rather than the individual heater.

A simple way to see if the heaters are getting an electric supply is to use a non contact voltage detector, these are less than £20. You hold it on the outer sheath of supply cable where it goes from the electrical outlet to the heater, it illuminates / flashes / buzzes to say the cable is live.

If all of the heaters have no supply to them, with the breakers in the on position it would suggest the problem was with the fuse feeding the heater board.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I've just been told that there's a Horstmann Control Panel hidden in the hallway. Am I right in assuming that the circuit board will be wired to this so this effectively controls the power to the heaters meaning it decides when the heaters can turn on and off. I'll give this a go and if I still can't get it to work, I'll have a look at your last suggestion.

Thanks again.
