Hi Guys,
I have a client who has a conventional CCTV setup through out his property, however he now wants to remotely connect into the DVR, via his Mac.
Without going down the windows platform installed on the Mac or, a sling box install, does anyone know of a decent Mac based DVR on the UK market?
I have done a search online and found a few in America, however do not really want to ship one over due to technical teams etc.
Thanks in advance

I have an Axis Network DVR, which is a slightly older DVR now, BUT, it works on ANY internet client, on any platform, even direct on the iphone. You just log into the IP address and on the mac, or iphone, I can do what ever I want in terms of view or maintenance. I didn't know this when I bought it, and have found out as I wanted to upgrade the machine to add cameras. What I may do is but a Dedicated Micros 9 unit, and loop the 4 main cameras I want to watch through to the Axis, so I can view on the iphone. I don't want a cheap Chinese box, and it seems Active X is needed on most systems, which isn't an option on Apple.
Some units now, Alien for example, have their own App to view on the iphone, but I don't know about a Mac.

I have just requested a quote for a AXIS DVR and await to see what this comes back at.
I am a lover of Axis kit and must say there IP cameras are some of the best in my view on the market.
Anyone else know of any Mac based DVR's on the UK market????????
Hi there.
We have avoided going down the IP route with our products on the basis of cost. You are looking at around 3 times the cost of a conventional CCTV system and in most instances any advantages are limited. You are also very limited in terms of camera choice, particularly when it comes to affordable outdoor cameras with longer lenses.
When you are looking at DVR recorders which offer full functionality on a Mac make sure they don't use a proxy server because these public use servers get massively overworked to the point where you struggle to access your CCTV system.
The vast majority of our customers run internet explorer on parallels when using a Mac. For times when that isn't possible our DVR recorders feature a cut down access panel as a fall back which works on any viewing platform including all the mobiles. It may not be sufficient for your client in terms of it's functionality but it's an option.
We have tested some DVRs which promised excellent Mac comparability and great mobile connectivity but in the real world there were reasons why we chose not to stock them.
Which ever DVR you do choose make sure the supplier offers a full support package. Quite a lot of people buy from us who have bought a DVR previously but struggled with set up and both supplying dealer and manufacturer have failed to deliver a solution. Also be aware that any DVR supplied from the US will be designed to work on NTSC rather than the UK's PAL system.
Have a look at our CCTV DVR advice page it may be useful. I am out in Asia again soon with our manufacturers, if there is anything new which looks good we'll bring it over and give it a try.
If you feel we can be of any help please don't hesitate to get in touch without obligation.

Henry,
Thanks for the response.
I have done some searching and spoken to some dealers, who are pushing tat through there door, who all say
yes there fully mac based, however when you look at the spec sheets there not at all.
Cyrus was one of the manufactures, however again looking at there data sheets its a Windows platform required.
What was the best one you came up with, when using a Mac?
Thanks for the response.

Sorry for the delay in responding, having a few days off on the boat at the moment. We haven't found one we are happy with thus far. To be fair our target Market doesn't want to go spending four figures on a DVR so that does limit what we look at. I'm out in Asia again in April when I will be chatting to some DVR manufacturers, there's a Korean company I want to speak with.
For the moment our current DVRs are the best solution that we have found in that their stripped down viewing platform works with absolutely any browser including public computers in cafes & lounges etc. It is also bandwidth friendly for mobile viewing. The downside is it's very basic compared to the Internet explorer viewing platform.
